This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. The IPL fees are public, along with one land sale. His Australian playing pay, TV contracts and sponsors are assumptions, labelled below, which is why the range runs to $30 million. Australian dollars convert at 1.4335 to the US dollar, the rate on 3 November 2026.
Public estimates vary widely. We think much of the gap comes from treating a cricketer’s fame as if it paid like modern IPL money, when his peak years came before the IPL existed. There is also a namesake problem: the F45 co-founder is also called Adam Gilchrist, and that man bought a $14 million home in Freshwater, on Sydney’s northern beaches, that has nothing to do with this one.
How we got to $15 million
| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Australia playing pay, kept | $3.45 million | Our assumption: A$1 million per season across nine from his 1999 Test debut to 2008, or A$9 million, keeping 55 percent after tax and costs. Contract terms from those years did not surface. |
| IPL contracts, kept | $2.64 million | $700,000 at the 2008 auction for Deccan Chargers across 2008 to 2010, $900,000 at the 2011 auction for Kings XI Punjab across 2011 to 2013: $4.8 million, with 55 percent kept. We assume each auction price was paid in each season. |
| Broadcasting, kept | $3.61 million | Our assumption: A$300,000 annually for ten years from Nine in March 2008, plus A$800,000 per summer for eight summers since Fox signed him in April 2018: A$9.4 million, 55 percent kept. No fee was published. |
| Endorsements and boards, kept | $4.80 million | Our assumption: 25 years at A$500,000, or A$12.5 million, 55 percent kept. Roles such as a Travelex directorship are on record, but the pay is not. |
| Eagle Bay land gain, kept | $0.34 million | Paid $290,000 in 1999, sold for $940,000 in 2017, which we read as Australian dollars. Gain of A$650,000, and we assume 25 percent tax. |
| El Arquero tequila stake | $0 | He is a founder with five others. His share is not public and the brand launched only in October 2025. |
| Spending | Minus $5.02 million | Our assumption: A$400,000 annually over the 18 years since retiring from international cricket, or A$7.2 million. |
| Growth on savings | $4.92 million | Our assumption: $3.5 million, about the playing pay kept in the first row, invested in 2008 at 5 percent for 18 years. That multiplies by 2.41, so growth is $4.92 million. |
| Total | About $14.74 million, rounded to $15 million | Mostly assumption. The IPL and land rows are the documented ones. |
The $800,000 retirement job
He announced his international retirement in January 2008 at 36 and played his last one-day international that March. Then the IPL arrived and paid more than the job he had just left, on our numbers. Six seasons at $4.8 million comes to $800,000 a season for one tournament a year. Our assumed A$1 million a year in Australian pay is about $698,000 by our calculation, for a full year of cricket.
So the fee he earned after retiring beat our assumption for his peak Australian pay by about 15 percent a season. After our keep rate, IPL income is 18 percent of his final figure, and it ended in 2013, when he retired from the IPL.
The block of land that tripled
A month after his Test debut in 1999 he and his wife bought a vacant 1,600 square metre corner block in Eagle Bay, Western Australia. They sold it in 2017 for 3.24 times the price. By our calculation that is about 6.8 percent a year for 18 years, with no building to maintain and no tenant to chase. It is the one investment of his we can actually check, and we use a lower 5 percent for his savings, since a single good block of land proves little about the rest.
Still on air, now with tequila
Fox Sports made him the lead of its cricket coverage across all three formats in April 2018, and Wisden listed him among the three headline Fox Cricket commentators for the 2025-26 Ashes. The newest business is El Arquero, a tequila launched in October 2025 with his wife Mel, his long-time manager and three others, made in Mexico. In April 2026 it was reported to be adding an añejo later in the year.
What would move the figure
A sale or a real valuation of El Arquero would. So would a disclosed Fox contract, or the end of it, since broadcasting is the steady income here. A property record for his main home would also help, and we did not find one.
