Anderson Cooper’s net worth is estimated at $60 million as of November 2026. The Vanderbilt in the family tree adds very little to it: probate documents valued his mother’s estate at under $1.5 million, against the $200 million once reported. The CNN anchor made his own money, and most of it came from a salary that reportedly rose from $2 million to $18 million a year.

How much is Anderson Cooper worth in 2026?

Our figure is $60 million, in a range of $40 million to $100 million. This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. We have two reported points on his pay nearly two decades apart, and we fill in the years between them.

Public estimates disagree for a simple reason. Some assume the family money reached him. Others take a big salary and treat it as money kept, when a New York earner at this level hands back close to half. We assume exactly half.

How Anderson Cooper built it

  • Stayed at one network. He has worked at CNN since 2001 and signed a new deal in December 2025.
  • Expected no inheritance. He said no trust fund was coming, and probate later showed an estate under $1.5 million.
  • Wrote books alongside the day job. He co-wrote histories of the Vanderbilts and Astors while anchoring a nightly show.

How we got to $60 million

Source Our estimate What it rests on
CNN pay, 2001 to 2026 $100 million Our assumption: $9 million for 2001 to 2006, then a straight line from a reported $4 million in 2007 to $15 million in 2026, averaging $9.5 million over 20 years. That is about $200 million, half left after tax.
60 Minutes and books $6 million Our assumption: $400,000 a season for 20 seasons at CBS and $4 million from four books, half left after tax.
Gloria Vanderbilt’s estate $1.5 million Counted at the full ceiling, which flatters him. Probate showed the estate at under $1.5 million, and the report says Cooper received it.
Returns on savings $15 million Our assumption: savings averaging $15 million, earning 4 percent a year after tax, for 25 years.
Living costs minus $62.5 million Our assumption: $2.5 million a year for 25 years, including homes, staff and, since 2020, two young children.
Total $60 million Mostly assumptions, labelled as such. Only the estate ceiling and the reported pay points are documented.

One month of pay

A Spanish-language report from December 2025 put his CNN salary at $18 million, without naming where the number came from, so we use $15 million for the top of our line. Taken at face value, it gives a neat comparison. $18 million a year is $1.5 million a month, so the most he could have received from his mother’s estate equals one month of reported pay (our calculation). It is also 2.5 percent of our $60 million.

The estate came in at under 1 percent of the $200 million once reported. One caveat sits on this. A trust outside probate would not show up in those filings, and the report on the probate papers raises that possibility. Cooper himself said there was no trust fund waiting for him, and we take him at his word until a document says otherwise.

The pay trail

The first number comes from early 2007, when a multi-year CNN deal reportedly doubled his salary from $2 million to $4 million. Going from there to a reported $18 million is a 4.5 times rise in 18 years, by our math. CNN renewed him anyway after a rough stretch: the same December 2025 report said its prime-time audience fell 42 percent in the prior quarter.

What changed in the last year

Variety reported a new CNN contract in December 2025, with terms undisclosed. It keeps him on the 8 p.m. hour, leading political coverage through the 2026 midterms, on New Year’s Eve with Andy Cohen, and developing The Whole Story and his podcast All There Is. Two months later he left 60 Minutes after nearly 20 years, saying he wanted more time with his young children. That cuts off the CBS row in our ledger, which we value at $400,000 a year before tax.

Two houses we did not add

He paid $4.3 million in 2009 for a former firehouse in Greenwich Village: 8,240 square feet over four floors, built around 1906. He and his then partner, Benjamin Maisani, also bought the Rye House estate in Litchfield, Connecticut, in 2014. We found no dated valuation for either, and the Litchfield price and how it was split are not in anything we opened. Both were bought with money already counted as pay, so they get no extra row. If the firehouse has doubled, our figure is about $4 million light.

What would move the figure

The length of the CNN deal is the big unknown. At our $15 million, every extra year adds about $7.5 million after tax before living costs. A sale of either house would also put a real number where we have none.
