How much is Humphrey Yang Worth? Humphrey Yang Net Worth in 2026
Humphrey Yang’s net worth is estimated at $1.7 million as of November 2026. He told a reporter in 2023 that a million TikTok views pays less than $10, which means the 14.5 million views on his short-selling explainer may have paid him under $145. The real money came later, from YouTube ads and sponsors on a finance channel with 2.09 million subscribers.

How much is Humphrey Yang worth in 2026?
We land on $1.7 million, inside a range of $1 million to $4 million. This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. He has never published his earnings or his balance sheet, so nearly every row below is an assumption built from audience numbers and one revenue split he gave a reporter.
Public estimates differ because they usually multiply views by an ad rate and stop there. That leaves out sponsors on one side and California tax on the other, and the tools themselves don’t agree: vidIQ models one ad revenue figure of $24,000 with no stated time window, while SponsorRadar models $12,000 to $35,000 a month.
How Humphrey Yang built it
- Saved before he quit. He had about $150,000 saved by his late 20s from game industry and adviser jobs.
- Posted every day for a year. He posted a video daily from September 2019 to September 2020.
- Moved revenue toward YouTube ads. YouTube ads rose from about 15% of his revenue to 40% by May 2023.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube ads, lifetime | $1.6 million | Our assumption: 595 million channel views at a blended $2.70 per 1,000. The rate is worked out in the next section. |
| Sponsors and everything else | $2.4 million | Our assumption. In 2023 he said YouTube ads had reached 40% of his revenue. If that held across his career, $1.6 million in ads means $4 million in total, leaving $2.4 million. |
| Income tax | minus $1.6 million | Our assumption: 40% of $4 million, for a high earner in California. |
| Living costs and his editor | minus $1.2 million | Our assumption: 30% of $4 million. He told a podcast in January 2024 he aims to spend 20% to 30% of income and often goes over. The rent-controlled apartment helps. |
| Savings from before the channel | $0.1 million | He had saved about $150,000 by his late 20s and spent about $20,000 of it on his first website. We assume about $100,000 survived. |
| Investment returns | $0.4 million | Our assumption: the $1.2 million left after tax and spending, invested for three years on average at 10% a year. That is a gain of about a third. |
| Total | $1.7 million | $1.6M plus $2.4M, minus $1.6M and $1.2M, plus $0.1M and $0.4M. |
The 1,200 to 1 gap between TikTok and YouTube
TikTok made him famous and paid him close to nothing. Fortune reported 3.3 million TikTok followers in 2022, and his line to The San Francisco Standard was that a million views earns under $10.
Now the other platform. His September 24, 2026 video on dollar milestones shows about 1 million views, and SponsorRadar models it at $12,000 to $35,000 in ads. By our calculation, even the low end is 1,200 times the TikTok pay for the same views: $12,000 divided by $10. The tool’s figures are modelled, so treat the multiple as a scale marker. Yang’s own number is the $10.
The blended rate in the ledger comes from the same page. It shows an average of 235,000 views across about 4.3 uploads a month, or roughly 1 million long video views. At the midpoint of its $12 to $35 rate, that is about $23,700 a month. Spread over the 8.72 million views the channel drew in October 2026, most of them presumably low-paying Shorts, our math gives $2.72 per 1,000. We round to $2.70.
He tried four other businesses first
Before the videos there was a custom map poster shop that paid him about $35,000 to $38,000 in its first year, a budgeting app, an email marketing ebook and a dropshipping attempt he gave up on. The base salary at Merrill Lynch in 2011 and 2012 was $49,000. All of that comes from his BiggerPockets interview, which also records three early YouTube videos that drew about 10 views each.
The turn came in late 2019, when a 30-day TikTok challenge brought 120,000 followers. He then posted a video every day from September 2019 to September 2020.
What sponsors pay, and the one he refused
Sponsors are the most uncertain line on this page. As of October 29, 2026, SponsorRadar had detected six sponsored videos from Chime, Rocket Money, Webull and Claude, and it puts sponsors at just 17% of monthly income. That is far below the 60% our ledger implies, partly because the tool only counts deals it can detect. If sponsors really have shrunk that much, the true figure sits in the lower half of our range.
He also turned down an FTX sponsorship before the exchange collapsed, which cost him a fee and probably saved him a very awkward video.
What would move the number
A paid product. As of January 2024 he had not built a course or service around the channel, so nearly all of his income still depends on ad rates and brand budgets. As a thought experiment, a $200 course sold to 1% of 2.09 million subscribers would gross about $4.2 million by our math, more than the $4 million we count for his whole career so far. A soft ad market pulls the other way.
