How much is Jimmy Buffett Worth? Jimmy Buffett Net Worth in 2026
Our estimate, as of November 2026, is that Jimmy Buffett was worth about $275 million when he died on 2 September 2023.
The billion-dollar figure that followed him around rested on a 28 percent stake in a licensing business and a big touring number. A June 2025 court filing gives a smaller picture: the estate owns a fifth of Margaritaville, valued at $85.3 million. The business sold $2.2 billion of goods and services in 2022, but sales are not ownership. He headlined almost 50 tours and built one of the odder brand businesses in music, with hotels, restaurants and a beer. He died on 2 September 2023, aged 76.

How much is Jimmy Buffett worth in 2026?
We put Buffett at about $275 million. That is well below the $1 billion that circulated after his death, and the gap has plain causes. One 2023 breakdown credited $570 million to touring and record sales and valued a 28 percent Margaritaville stake at $180 million. The court record shows a 20 percent stake worth $85.3 million and a list of assets that adds to $275 million.
The same filing lists $275 million in total estate assets, and that is the figure we use. The filing is from June 2025, so we cannot say these values are as of his death. It does not say what debts the estate carries, which is why the range runs lower and higher than the headline.
How Jimmy Buffett built it
- Licensed the name. He owned a share of a company with 30 restaurants and 20 hotels instead of running them himself.
- Toured for four decades. Pollstar counts almost 50 headlining tours since the 1970s.
- Turned a song into a brand. Margaritaville Holdings reached $2.2 billion in sales in 2022, with beer and tequila on the side.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Stake in Margaritaville | $85 million | Fortune reported that a June 2025 court filing valued the estate’s 20 percent share at $85.3 million, and that the business paid about $14 million in distributions over the previous 18 months. |
| Homes, planes, art and vehicles | $68 million | The same filing lists $34.5 million of property, $15.3 million of airplanes, $11.4 million of fine art, $5 million of vehicles and $2 million of musical equipment. |
| Other estate assets, not itemised | $122 million | The filing puts total estate assets at $275 million. After the rows above, $122 million is left. The report we opened does not say what is in it, and it could include cash, investments and music rights. This row is the filing’s own balance, not an item we can name. |
The rows add to $275 million. Our calculation: his estate’s share of Margaritaville, $85.3 million, is 3.9 percent of the $2.2 billion the business sold in 2022, and the $14 million paid in 18 months is a yield of about 11 percent a year on that stake. The brand’s sales figure was never a measure of what he owned.
Almost 50 tours, no billion from them
Pollstar’s count puts him at almost 50 headlining tours since the 1970s, and even his best night at Jones Beach grossed about $1.3 million from 13,446 tickets. We cannot see what the band, crew, venues and promoters took, but even a few hundred nights at that level would gross a few hundred million before costs. It helps explain how he could afford six homes, four planes and a yacht, which a 2023 Forbes list valued at $140 million together with his Berkshire Hathaway shares, and how the estate’s filing later showed $34.5 million in property and $15.3 million in planes.
A licensing deal that did most of the work
Margaritaville started as a song, and by 2025 it was a business with more than 30 restaurants and bars and 20 hotels, Fortune reported from the filing. Buffett owned a share of the company rather than all of it, and the 2023 breakdown also counted a beer and tequila business separately. We could not open a valuation of that business, so it sits inside the unitemised balance, if anywhere.
What would move the figure
The latest documented event is the June 2025 filing, made in a dispute over how the estate is managed; a separate co-trustee suit was filed in Florida that month. A sale or recapitalization of Margaritaville would replace the filing’s valuation with a price. Because the stake is 28 percent in one earlier public estimate and 20 percent in the filing, the ownership percentage is the biggest open question. A court ruling on the estate’s management dispute could change what the estate holds.
