How much is Kapil Dev worth in 2026?
Our figure is $19 million, in a range of $10 million to $40 million, converted at ?94.72 to the dollar on November 3, 2026. This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. We found no published contract, company accounts or property record in his name, so most rows below are assumptions. The low end halves the Delhi house and uses ?3 crore a year of endorsements. The high end uses ?8 crore a year.
Public estimates start near ?270 crore and some run far higher, and the ones we opened don’t show how they got there. The spread comes from guessing current endorsement income and then treating it as if he had earned that for decades. We assume his biggest earning years came long after a playing career that paid very little.
How Kapil Dev built it
- Refused to depend on the board. He decided as a player not to rely on board money, and said in 2019 he had not taken a penny of his pension.
- Started a floodlight business. Dev Musco Lighting installs floodlights at sports venues and had about 40 employees in a 2019 report.
- Kept earning long after retiring. Appearances, endorsements, analysis and lectures replaced a playing career that paid 2,100 rupees a match in 1983.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi and Chandigarh homes | $7.9 million | ?75 crore. One cricket news site lists a bungalow in Sundar Nagar, New Delhi, and a house in Chandigarh. Assumption: ?70 crore and ?5 crore, set against the ?65 crore agreed in October 2025 for a two-floor Sunder Nagar bungalow and about ?96 crore for a 900 square yard bungalow in 2024. We credit all of it to him, without a record of plot size or co-owners. |
| Businesses | $2.1 million | ?20 crore, our assumption. He runs Dev Musco Lighting, which installs floodlights at sports venues and had about 40 staff in 2019, and he is linked to the Eleven restaurants. No accounts were available to us. |
| Endorsements, appearances, commentary | $13.5 million | ?128 crore gross. Assumption: ?4 crore a year on average for the 32 years since he retired in 1994, far below today’s rates in the early years. Brands listed for him include Boost, Palmolive and Cred, with no fees published. |
| The film 83 | $0.5 million | ?5 crore. Bollywood Hungama reported that from an unnamed insider in December 2021. |
| Tax | minus $4.2 million | ?39.9 crore. Assumption: 30 percent of the ?133 crore income above. |
| Living costs | minus $5.1 million | ?48 crore. Assumption: ?1.5 crore a year for 32 years. |
| Original cost of the homes | minus $1.1 million | ?10 crore. Assumption. The home row above is today’s value, so what he paid comes out of savings. |
| Investment gains | $5.6 million | ?53 crore. Income less the three deductions leaves ?35.1 crore. Assumption: 8 percent a year for 12 years on average, so 35.1 times 1.518 is about ?53 crore. |
| Total | $19 million | About ?183 crore, or $19.4 million, rounded. Rounded rows sum to $19.2 million. |
Why the house matters more than the cricket
Outlook reported that each player got a ?1,500 match fee plus ?200 a day for three days in 1983, or ?2,100. An Indian player now gets ?6 lakh for a one-day international, according to the same report. Put our ?70 crore house value over those two numbers. By our calculation it equals 333,333 matches at the 1983 rate, or about 1,167 at today’s fee. No inflation adjustment here, only the distance between two pay scales.
The homes come to ?75 crore of our ?183 crore total, or 41 percent. That share is also the weakest part of the page. The ?65 crore Sunder Nagar agreement covered the basement and two floors on an 866 square yard plot, and we don’t know the size of his plot or who else is on the title. If the Delhi house were worth half our figure, the total would drop by about $3.7 million.
The pension he says he never touched
He once told an interviewer why he refused to rely on the board. During his playing days he saw a former national captain waiting outside the BCCI secretary’s room. “I have not taken a penny from the pension; not a penny,” he said in a 2019 report, which adds that he reportedly gives the money to a charity home. So the pension row in this ledger is zero, and it isn’t listed.
A one-time board payment also stays out. In July 2012 a report said he had been excluded from a ?1 crore benefit scheme, after he launched a rival league in 2007, and that making peace with the board should restore his eligibility if an expected amnesty came through. We found no report that he received it, so we counted nothing.
The money he chose instead came from public appearances, product endorsements, cricket analysis and motivational lectures. A floodlight firm is a fitting side business for a cricketer: stadiums keep needing lights, and the buyer already knows his name.
What would change the figure
Three pieces of paper would do it: filed accounts for Dev Musco Lighting, a property record for the Sundar Nagar house, and any published endorsement fee. Our latest dated money marker is the October 31, 2025 Sunder Nagar agreement. He turned 67 on January 6, 2026, so the larger question is how long brand work continues at this level.
