How much is Ricky Ponting Worth? Ricky Ponting Net Worth in 2026
Ricky Ponting’s net worth is estimated at about $24 million as of November 2026. The best trade we can document in his career happened in real estate: a house in Brighton, Melbourne, bought for A$9.25 million in 2013 and sold in 2023 for a reported A$14.8 million to A$16 million. His contracts were never published, though a business magazine’s yearly earnings lists give a rough read on his pay. This is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented.

How much is Ricky Ponting worth in 2026?
We estimate Ricky Ponting at about $24 million, in a range of $15 million to $40 million. Three things are on the record: some IPL pay, his property deals and gross earnings for a few years from BRW’s lists. The split between Cricket Australia pay and endorsements, and his commentary fees, are not public, so the rest is assumption, and each row says so. We count the household, because the property reports name both Ponting and his wife, Rianna. Public estimates run far higher, some to several times our figure, and they tend to treat a long career as if tax and spending never happened. Currency: A$1 buys $0.6977 and $1 buys 94.68 rupees, both on November 3, 2026, a simplification for money earned years ago.
How Ricky Ponting built it
- Sold a Melbourne home at a gain. The Brighton home cost A$9.25 million in 2013 and sold for a reported A$14.8 million or more in 2023.
- Moved from playing into coaching. He coached Delhi for seven seasons, then signed a four-year Punjab Kings contract starting in 2025.
- Put his name on a wine range. Ponting Wines, made with winemaker Ben Riggs, had its first release in 2020.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Playing years, 1995 to 2012, after tax | $15.0 million | BRW’s yearly sports earners lists, which count wages, prize money, sponsors and endorsements, put him at A$2.24 million for 2004, A$4.26 million for 2009 and A$3.9 million for 2010. A report on the 2011 list gives $3.5 million, without naming the currency; we read it as Australian. Our assumption fills the gaps: A$30 million across 2004 to 2012, about A$3.3 million a year, and A$1 million a year for the nine years before that, or A$39 million. Less an assumed 45 percent tax: A$21.45 million. His IPL playing pay is inside these totals. |
| IPL coaching pay, after tax | $1.8 million | TechnoSports estimated his salary at 3.5 crore rupees for 2026. We assume that rate for all nine seasons from 2018, or 31.5 crore. Less the same assumed 45 percent: 17.33 crore. |
| Commentary and other work since 2013, after tax | $5.8 million | BRW put him at A$2.0 million for 2013, his first year after Test cricket. From 2014 it is our assumption: A$1 million a year for 13 years. He has worked for the Seven network and coached Mumbai before Delhi and now Washington Freedom, with no fees published. A$15 million less 45 percent tax: A$8.25 million. |
| Gains on homes already sold | $4.6 million | Brighton: A$9.25 million to a reported A$14.8 million to A$16 million, a gain of A$6.15 million at the midpoint. Burraneer Bay: A$3.8 million in 2006 to A$4.275 million plus in 2013, a gain of A$475,000. Before renovation and selling costs. |
| Ponting Wines stake | $1 million | Our assumption. The range, made with winemaker Ben Riggs, first came out in 2020. No sales or ownership figures are public, so we carry a small flat value. |
| Returns on savings | $4.2 million | Our assumption: 4 percent after tax on an average A$10 million held outside the homes for 15 years, or A$6 million. The homes earn only the gains counted above. |
| Spending | Minus $8.7 million | Our assumption: A$500,000 a year for 25 years, or A$12.5 million. |
| Total | About $24 million | $15.0 + $1.8 + $5.8 + $4.6 + $1.0 + $4.2 – $8.7 million = $23.7 million, which we round to $24 million. |
The house that beat his IPL playing career
Salary Sport shows two IPL seasons as a player, worth 3.74 crore rupees together. At today’s rates that is about $395,000, or roughly A$566,000. The Brighton gain was A$6.15 million at the midpoint of the reported price, which by our calculation is about 11 times his listed IPL playing pay, and 10 to 12 times across the reported price range. It took a decade and came before selling costs, but no selector was involved.
Elite Agent reported that the Pontings had bought a A$20 million property in Toorak and still held a Portsea weekender bought in 2019 for A$3.51 million. That is A$23.51 million at purchase prices, or about $16.4 million, and by our calculation about 69 percent of the ledger total. Those homes are what much of the money turned into, so we don’t add them on top. We don’t know what is owed on them, and any rise in value since purchase is not in the ledger.
What it would take to reach $70 million
Some public estimates sit at several times our figure, so we ran the test. Going from $24 million to $70 million needs another $46 million after tax, or about A$66 million. At 45 percent tax that is about A$120 million more in gross pay, by our calculation, roughly three times the A$39 million we credit him for his whole playing career. His best documented year was A$4.26 million, so that gap equals about 28 more years at his peak. The homes don’t close it either: they are already what much of the ledger turned into.
The coach earns about a tenth of his captain
Cricket.com.au reported in April 2025 that Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer was bought for almost A$5 million. Ponting’s estimated 3.5 crore rupees is about $370,000, and A$5 million is about $3.49 million. So the head coach’s season is worth about 10.6 percent of the captain’s, by our calculation. The gap makes sense once you see that a coach can stack jobs: seven seasons at Delhi, then Punjab, Washington and a commentary seat.
What 2026 added, and what could change the number
Punjab Kings finished fifth in the 2026 league stage, seven wins from 14, and missed the playoffs. The four-year contract signed in September 2024 covers seasons from 2025, so on its face it has two seasons left after 2026. Losing that job would take about $370,000 a year off his income. A bigger swing sits in the assumptions: if commentary and other coaching paid A$3 million a year from 2014, that row grows by about $10 million, and a 25 percent rise on the Toorak and Portsea homes adds about $4 million, which takes the total to about $38 million. Spending A$750,000 a year with no investment returns takes it down to about $15 million. A Toorak or Portsea sale would give the first real test of the property rows.
