Born in St. Joseph, Michigan, to Shelly, a former Texas state tennis champion, and Jeff Upton, a high school athletics director, she grew up in Melbourne, Florida.

Her family moved to Florida in 1999, where she attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy.

She showed at the American Paint Horse Association and competed at a national level, as a young equestrian.

Upton won three APHA Reserve World Championships, with her horse Roanie Pony.

She received the 13 and Reserve All-Around Champion, making her the winner of four reserve championships on the second place.

In 2014 she started along Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Nicki Minaj, in the comedy The Other Woman.
