Born as Jonathan Smith in Atlanta, Georgia, he acted as the frontman of the Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz.

Before his musical career he attended Frederick Douglas High School in Atlanta, from which he graduated.

Their first breakthrough single, Bia’ Bia, featured rappers like Ludacris, Too Short, Big Kapp, and Chyna Whyte.
Until 2004 the group continued to release big hits with Get Low becoming the most popular.
