How much is Melanie Perkins worth in 2026?

The odd detail about Perkins’s wealth is how little of it she may end up keeping. She and co-founder Cliff Obrecht have pledged over 80 percent of their Canva stake to the Canva Foundation, according to Fortune. We still count the full stake in our figure, because the pledge is a promise about the future and the shares remain theirs today.

Canva is private, so the number rests on marks, not trades. The last priced sale was the employee share sale in August 2025 at $42 billion, up from $32 billion in October 2024. Since then, Revenue Memo lists fund marks of $38.2 billion to $39.3 billion in March to June 2026, a 17 percent cut by Blackbird and AirTree to $34.9 billion in August 2026, and a $31 billion valuation set for Canva’s annual employee share issue. SmartCompany reported the same August figures and said a secondary broker was offering stock at an implied $30 billion. We use $33 billion, between the employee-share price and the investor marks. Her split with Obrecht is not published. A listing or a new priced round would reset the number.

How Melanie Perkins built it

  • Grew revenue to billions. Annualized revenue reached $3.3 billion with 27 million paying users by August 2025.
  • Pledged most of the stake away. She and Obrecht pledged over four-fifths of their shares to the Canva Foundation.
  • Let employees cash out. The August 2025 sale let staff sell up to $3 million of vested equity each.

How we got to $5 billion

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Canva shares about $4.95 billion Revenue Memo estimates Perkins and Obrecht hold about 30 percent together. We assume they split it evenly, so 15 percent for her, and apply it to our $33 billion mark.
Cash from earlier share sales and other assets about $0.05 billion An allowance. Founder sales are not documented.
Pledge to the Canva Foundation $0, not deducted Most of the stake is pledged but the shares stay theirs for now, so the pledge is shown for context and not subtracted.

Total: $4.95 billion + $0.05 billion = $5.0 billion.

Our calculation: 15 percent of $33 billion is $4.95 billion. At the 80 percent minimum, the pledge covers at least $3.96 billion of that, which would leave about $1.0 billion or less for the family. Against the $42 billion mark, the same 15 percent was $6.3 billion, so the markdown alone has taken about $1.35 billion off her paper wealth, a fall of 21 percent ($33 billion divided by $42 billion is 0.79).

One number carries it

Canva had 27 million paying users out of 240 million monthly users when the 2025 sale was priced, with annualized revenue of $3.3 billion, so it is a large business with clear revenue. The caveats are the split and the mark: 18 percent would put her stake near $5.9 billion at $33 billion, 12 percent near $4.0 billion, and at the $31 billion employee-share valuation her 15 percent is $4.65 billion. That is why our range is wide.

The latest dated events

The August 2025 sale let eligible current and former employees sell up to $3 million of vested equity each at $1,646.14 a share. The August 2026 marks above are the newest we found, and the touted 2027 US listing could slip if sentiment does not recover, SmartCompany said, though it did not confirm a delay.
