Stephenie Meyer’s net worth is estimated at $85 million as of November 2026. The $750,000 deal that started it all covered three books, and by 2009 Forbes estimated she earned more than $50 million in a single year. That advance was 1.5 percent of that one year.

How much is Stephenie Meyer worth in 2026?
We estimate about $85 million. Two years of her income were published and the rest is arithmetic on book sales, so this is a rough estimate with a wide range. Copy counts themselves disagree: a 2020 report said more than 100 million, while another count says more than 160 million.
Public estimates vary so much because some appear to treat peak-year pay as money kept, or lean on the box office. The five films took $3.341 billion worldwide, and very little of that is an author’s money.
How Stephenie Meyer built it
- Let eight publishers bid. An auction among eight publishers ended in a $750,000 three-book deal by November 2003.
- Moved into producing. She founded Fickle Fish Films in 2011 and produced both Breaking Dawn films.
- Retold a hit from another side. Midnight Sun, told from Edward's view, sold more than 1 million copies in its first week in 2020.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Two published peak years, after tax and fees | $45 million | Forbes estimates of more than $50 million in its 2009 ranking and $40 million in the 12 months to June 1, 2010. That is $90 million. We assume half is kept. |
| The rest of the Twilight book sales, after tax and fees | $52.25 million | 160 million copies less the 55.5 million sold in 2008 and 2009 leaves 104.5 million. We assume $1 a copy across paperbacks and foreign editions, then keep half. Lower copy counts are why our range goes down to $55 million. |
| Film rights and producing, outside those two years, after tax and fees | $10 million | Our assumption: $20 million gross, halved. No deal price has been confirmed. She produced both Breaking Dawn films and Austenland, and founded Fickle Fish Films in 2011. |
| Giving | Minus $1.5 million | She gave $1.5 million to the American Red Cross after the Haiti and Chile earthquakes. |
| Spending | Minus $21.45 million | Our assumption: 20 percent of the $107.25 million kept above. |
| Total | $84.3 million, rounded to $85 million | No investment gains are counted, which is the largest reason the true figure could be higher. |
Two years that made the fortune
She sold about 29 million books in 2008 and 26.5 million in 2009. For scale, Breaking Dawn alone had a 3.2 million first printing and sold 1.3 million copies on publication day in August 2008.
By our calculation, $50 million divided by 26.5 million books is $1.89 per book. That overstates the book money, because the figure includes film income and the Forbes year doesn’t line up with the calendar year, which is why we use only $1 a copy for everything else. It also shows how concentrated the money was: the $90 million from those two published years is 42 percent of our $214.5 million lifetime gross.
An auction, then a production company
The first contract came after an auction among eight publishers, signed by November 2003 with Little, Brown. She founded Fickle Fish Films in 2011 with Meghan Hibbett, which moved her from author who sold rights to producer on her own adaptations. Forbes ranked her No. 26 on its Celebrity 100 in 2009, and No. 59 a year later.
As of 2026 there’s still no follow-up to The Host, a 2008 novel that debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times list and stayed 26 weeks.
What’s left in the tank
The latest book money we can date is Midnight Sun, which sold more than 1 million copies in its first week in August 2020, according to Little, Brown. It retells Twilight from Edward Cullen’s point of view. Netflix gave an animated version a straight-to-series order in 2024, with Meyer as an executive producer.
That series is the thing most likely to move the figure, since a screen release could pull the backlist up again. Her fee isn’t public. She said in 2020 she had two more Twilight books outlined, and a new one would matter more than any fee. No date has been announced.
