How much is Sunil Mittal worth in 2026?

We estimate Mittal’s net worth at $33 billion, built from the ledger below rather than from anyone else’s total. The numbers depend on a rupee at about 95 to the dollar, on Airtel’s share price, and on how much of the family’s holdings belong to him rather than his brothers. This one is a rough estimate in its smaller rows: the Airtel row is well documented, the rest is not.

How Sunil Mittal built it

  • Bought stock back from his partner. Bharti Telecom paid about $1.6 billion in 2022 for a 3.3 percent Airtel stake that Singtel sold.
  • Looked abroad early. Bharti Global backed OneWeb and bought 24.5 percent of BT Group in 2024, spreading wealth beyond Airtel.
  • Planned control over a decade. In May 2026 he said Bharti Telecom should climb back to just over 50 percent of Airtel within a decade.

How we got to $33 billion

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Bharti Telecom, the Airtel holding company $26.0 billion Airtel’s market value of about ?12.38 lakh crore on 2 November 2026 (about $130 billion at about ?95 to the dollar, the 30 October 2026 close) times the 39.51 percent held by Bharti Telecom in the September 2026 quarter, times the Bharti side’s 50.56 percent of Bharti Telecom (Singtel holds the other 49.44 percent)
Indian Continent Investment, a family company $4.2 billion A direct 3.25 percent of Airtel, shown in the September 2026 shareholding pattern, times the $130 billion market value
Bharti Global, the foreign arm $2.0 billion A 24.5 percent stake in BT Group worth £3.2 billion at the 2024 announcement price, plus a smaller Eutelsat holding, net of an assumed borrowing
Real estate, payments bank and other $1.2 billion Assumption: Bharti Realty, Airtel Payments Bank and a Brookfield India REIT holding at book-style values
Other family members and holding company borrowing minus $0.6 billion Assumption: Bharti Enterprises is shared with his brothers and carries debt. We deduct only a token amount, so this is closer to the family’s wealth than to his alone

Total: $26.0 billion + $4.2 billion + $2.0 billion + $1.2 billion ? $0.6 billion = $32.8 billion, which we round to $33 billion. Singtel owns 49.44 percent of Bharti Telecom, so we count only the Bharti side’s 50.56 percent.

One fifth of every rupee

Our calculation: 50.56 percent of Bharti Telecom times its 39.51 percent of Airtel gives the Bharti side about 20 percent of Airtel’s economic value. At a market value near $130 billion, each percentage point of Airtel is worth about $1.3 billion, and the Bharti side owns twenty of them through the main holding company alone.

The $1.6 billion purchase from his partner

In August 2022 Singtel announced it would sell a 3.3 percent stake in Airtel to Bharti Telecom for about $1.6 billion. That price implies a whole-company value of roughly $48 billion. At today’s $130 billion, the same 3.3 percent would be worth about $4.3 billion, more than two and a half times what was paid. In May 2025, according to Outlook Business, Singtel sold a 1.2 percent direct stake, 71 million Airtel shares at Rs 1,814 each, and its stake fell from 29.5 percent to 28.3 percent. In May 2026 Mittal said on Airtel’s results call that he wants Bharti Telecom to climb back to just over 50 percent of Airtel over the next decade, People Matters reported.

Satellites, a British phone giant and a 2025 board seat

Bharti Global, run by his son Shravin, bought into the satellite firm OneWeb, which later merged with Eutelsat, where Mittal became co-chairman. In 2024 it bought a 24.5 percent stake in BT Group, and Mittal joined BT’s board in September 2025, according to his Forbes profile. Coverage at the August 2024 announcement valued that stake at about £3.2 billion at the day’s share price. We could not confirm Bharti’s current Eutelsat holding, so the Bharti Global row is a rough assumption.

Why estimates disagree

Public estimates differ on whether Singtel’s half of Bharti Telecom is netted out, on how much of the family’s wealth is his rather than his brothers’, and on which day’s share price is used. A 1 percent move in the Airtel share price shifts the main holding company row by about $260 million (20 percent of $1.30 billion), so two estimates a month apart can differ by $2 billion with no error on either side.

What would move it

The Airtel share price, mostly. A further Singtel sale to the family would change ownership but not the total much. A fall in BT’s price would hit the Bharti Global row. With his siblings he has pledged $1.1 billion to a foundation for a new university offering free education to the poor, a commitment with no stated date that we do not subtract.
