It is within our nature to be fascinated by the mysterious and the beautiful. And we are so lucky because the Earth is filled with this kind of places.
Today we are going to visit 10 unique places around the world and see which location deserves more credit to Mother Nature.
Our journey knows no boundaries, as we unveil some the world’s most fascinating hot spots.
We will travel from Japan to Venezuela, from places used by the Taoists for meditation to an unused railway track from Ukraine, from a place that looks like a giant cotton castle to the largest salt flat in the world. Sounds good, no ?
Now, with no more further delays, I proudly present you my favorite 10 unique places around the world.
10Pamukkale, Turkey
I decided to start my article with a place that’s on my bucket list for a very long time – Pamukkale, Turkey. This fascinating spot is located 250 km east of Izmir and 19 km north of Denizli.
I real interesting thing about this place is its name. Pamukkale, in Turkish, means ” cotton castle “.
Now, if you ask yourself why, I will have the honor to give you three reasons for its name. Well, firstly and obviously, this places looks like a giant cotton castle. The limestone deposits are white as the cotton and tall and strong like a castle.
Second, the water from this location offers properties needed to clean the cotton produced locally.
The third reason for its name is that a Turkish poet gave it this name after he had a vision of mythological titans that used a part of the this mountain to dry and hang out their cotton.
9Mount Roraima, Venezuela
From the photos, you will remain with the impression that this place comes from a sci-fi movie, but you’ve never been so wrong. This place is real and it’s in Venezuela.
This is a giant flat-topped mountain located in the Pakaraima Mountains of the Guiana Highlands.
If you want to be on top of this awesome place, there is only one easy way up : through a natural staircase-like ramp. There are, of course, other ways of climbing it, but you really need to be an experienced rock climber.
Once you are on the top of the mountain, you may realize that it rains…a lot. I mean like, every single day.
And because of this unique thing, Mount Roraima is a place that offers some of the highest waterfalls in the world.
8Nine Hells of Beppu, Japan
Located on the island of Kyushu, Beppu is an remarkable place with over 2,800 hot springs. The Nine Hells of Beppu are some of the more fascinating springs from the area.
This is the world’s second largest source of thermal spring water after Yellowstone National Park from the U.S.
The ” Nine Hells ” are not for bathing, they are just for viewing.
Every single ” hell ” from Beppu is unique, offering its own awesome color and character.
So, if you are looking for some marvelous landscape combined with some Japan culture, the ” Nine Hells of Beppu ” is definitely your place to be.
7Tunnel of Love, Ukraine
Well..this is one amazing place! The Tunnel of Love is located in the small Ukrainian town of Kleven.
It is an unused railway track that naturally transformed itself into an unique paradise for couples.
Because of the green trees that grow over either side of the track forming an arch, specially during spring, the Tunnel of Love has become quite of an attraction for couples all over the world.
So, if you are looking for the best place to surprise your better half, I absolutely recommend you the Tunnel of Love, one of the Earth’s most romantic places.
6Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia
Also knows as ” Salar de Tunupa “, Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world one of the most breathtaking spots on Earth.
This place is the result of the transformation of several prehistoric lakes.
Although the Salar de Uyuni has a little wildlife, there are 80 species of migrating and visiting birds. This number also includes a a couple of flamingo species.
You will also find here at Salar de Uyuni a couple of geysers, islands and hot springs.
Sometimes, Salar de Uyuni is covered in clear water. Why is that awesome ? Because this thing makes Salar de Uyuni the largest natural mirror in the world.
5Sanqingshan, China
I absolutely love this mysterious place. The Sanqingshan is used by Taoists for meditation and it is believed to lead to immortality.
Sanqingshan is surrounded by magical mists for over 200 days of the year.
You will discover here, if you ever have the chance to visit Sanqingshan, thousands of streams, pool, strangely shaped pine trees and granite formations that ressemble with silhouettes of animals and even humans.
A fantastic place inhabited by many rare and exotic animals and birds, Sanqingshan is also the home of 2,500 plant species.
4The Stone Forest, China
Just picture yourself entering a usual forest with tall trees.
Now, replace those trees shaped rocks and sharp points and you will see how a stone forest looks like.
The Stone Forest is located in Lunan Yu Autonomous County, near near Shilin.
This is the one of the most remarkable calcareous relief and probably that is why, the Chinese Stone Forest was visited by 2.2 million tourists in 2005.
Besides the resemblance with tree, some stones look like pyramids, columns, mushrooms, towers and other awesome things.
3Zhangye, China
Well, I really don’t know what to say. It seams that China is a country with lots of unique places, perfect for our vacations.
This time we are going to talk about Zhangye, a marvelous colored rocky landscape that definitely looks like a painting.
Zhangye ‘s Danxia was formed through out the erosion of the red sandstone forming steep stratified outcrops and erosion of red sandstone.
The best time to visit Zhangye is from June to September.
Why ? Because the weather offers you a combination between strong sun and little rain that brings the color out more.
2Socotra, Yemen
Socotra is located in Yemen and it represents a four island archipelago in the Indian Ocean.
This place has been considered one of the most alien-looking spot on Earth and we definitely can see why.
One of the most fascinating Socota’s trees is the Dracaena cinnabari, the dragon’s blood tree. This umbrella-shaped tree is one of Socota’s iconic features.
This marvelous place is a World Heritage Site and it is the most bio-diverse place in the Arabian Sea.
1Tulip fields, Lisse, Holland
In my opinion, this is one of the most unique place in Europe. Located in Lisse, Holland, the tulip fields are perfect if you love color and flowers.
In case you didn’t know tulips are the symbol for romance, passion and perfect lovers.
The display of colors that you are able to see in the photo bellow is created by over seven million tulips, hyacinths, spring bulbs, daffodils and trees.
This is one of Netherlands’ top attraction and the most popular attraction in Lisee. This area, located in the south of Amsterdam is open only in the spring when the gorgeous tulips are flowering.
