According to Wikipedia entry, season one of Shark Tank India saw Mittal commit about ?5.4 crore across 25 businesses, and season three about ?8.05 crore. Our calculation: ?5.4 crore ÷ 25 = ?21.6 lakh per business, roughly $24,500 each. Television makes the deals look big. In our ledger they are 2 percent of the total.
An angel list that includes Ola
He was one of the earliest investors in Ola Cabs and has backed more than 250 startups, among them Rupeek, Agnikul, Basic Home Loan, Animall, BigBasket, Mitigata, Rapido and WhatFix. Only a few exits are public, so we treat the portfolio as a modest, mostly unrealised row.
Shaadi.com and the listing that has not happened
In September 2022, Global Dating Insights reported Mittal saying People Group would be IPO-ready in about 12 months, that it had been profitable for a couple of years and that it did not need capital. Inc42 noted that an earlier attempt, in 2009, would have diluted 15 to 20 percent of the group. We found no filing since, so the latest documented event on this page is from 2022.
