How much is Dirk Nowitzki Worth? Dirk Nowitzki Net Worth in 2026
Dirk Nowitzki’s net worth is estimated at $120 million as of November 2026. In 2014 the Lakers and Rockets were reportedly each ready to offer him $74.3 million, and he signed with Dallas for $25 million. That one decision cost him an amount equal to about a fifth of all the salary he ever earned. He spent 21 seasons with the Mavericks, and NBA pay still makes up nearly all of the money we can document.

How much is Dirk Nowitzki worth in 2026?
We put him at $120 million, in a range of $90 million to $160 million. Published salary counts total $251.6 million over his career, and that figure carries most of the weight. The rest is thin: we found few deal values and no documented stake in a team or company, so most rows after the first are our assumptions.
Public estimates disagree for two reasons. Some treat career salary as if it were all kept, ignoring taxes and two decades of spending. Others add business stakes that we could not trace to any primary source and so left out.
How Dirk Nowitzki built it
- Took less to stay competitive. He signed for $25 million in 2014 so Dallas could fit Chandler Parsons on the roster.
- Stayed with one team. He played all 21 NBA seasons for the Dallas Mavericks, from 1998 to 2019.
- Started again as a rookie analyst. He joined Prime Video's studio show for 2025-26, his first job as a broadcaster.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| NBA salary after tax and fees | $138 million | $251.6 million in career pay, from published salary counts (we could not open the underlying salary database). We keep 55 percent, a little above the half we use for athletes in high-tax states, because Texas has no state income tax. He still paid federal tax, agents and taxes on road games. |
| Endorsements | $12 million | Assumption: $1 million a year for 21 seasons, $21 million, at the same 55 percent. Fortune’s 2014 list counted $400,000, calling Nike his one paid deal, but he also did long-running ING advertising in Germany, so we go higher. |
| Broadcasting and Mavericks adviser pay | $3 million | Assumption: $1 million a year for five years since he became a special adviser in June 2021, kept at 55 percent. No fee is public. |
| Returns on saved money | $39 million | Assumption: $65 million invested on average, earning 3 percent a year after tax, for 20 years. |
| Spending and giving | minus $70 million | Assumption: $2.5 million a year for the 28 years since 1998, including family, homes and giving. |
| Total | $120 million | The rows sum to $122 million, which we round down. Treat it as an estimate. |
The $49.3 million discount
NBC 5 in Dallas reported in July 2014 that Houston and Los Angeles were each prepared to offer a three-year maximum deal worth $74.292 million. He took three years and $25 million, and even that came down from the $30 million first reported, so the Mavericks could fit Chandler Parsons’s $46 million offer sheet.
By our calculation, $74.292 million minus $25 million is $49.3 million, which is 19.6 percent of his $251.6 million career pay. At our 55 percent keep rate, the discount cost him about $27 million after tax, equal to 23 percent of the fortune we estimate today. His pay fell from $22.7 million to about $8 million from one season to the next.
He did it again in 2017, signing for $5 million a season with a team option on the second year, which Sport1 said gave Dallas room to deal with free agents such as Nerlens Noel. Three years earlier he had been the 32nd highest earner on Fortune’s list of athletes, at $23.1 million.
What living in Texas was worth
Texas has no state income tax, which matters on a one-city career. California’s top rate of 13.3 percent applied to all $251.6 million would be $33.5 million by our math. That overstates it, since the top rate never touches all of the income, and he would have paid road taxes either way. Still, it shows why we credit him with a slightly higher keep rate than a California star on the same money.
Prime Video and what comes next
His latest dated job is a Prime Video studio role, announced in January 2025 for the 2025-26 season, his first as an analyst. We found no reported pay figure.
Two things could move the number. A longer broadcast contract would add steadily. A real stake in a team or company would add much more, and we have seen no record of one, which is why it is not in the table. The Mavericks retired his No. 41 in January 2022 and put up a statue that Christmas, and neither pays dividends. A second statue in Frankfurt marks his long ad run with ING Germany, a rare case of a bank campaign ending up in bronze.
