Viktor Vekselberg made his first billion selling scrap copper from worn out cables, but in the 90s he started holding the SUAL company. SUAL merged with Rusal and Glencore in 2007, and created UC Rusal, the largest aluminium producer in the world.
After selling a 50% stake in joint oil venture TNK-BP to state-owned Rosneft, the billionaire invested some of the money in buying 25% of Swiss steel company Schmolz+Bickenbach.
Vekselberg owns a big art collection and 9 Faberge eggs, and he opened a private museum last year to showcase his art collection. The Russian billionaire also announced that he wants to give a luxurious apartment in his own hotel to pair skaters Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov, who won the gold medal in the winter Olympic games.
