10. The Island of the Dolls, Mexico
The first place on the list, where you would want to run away from being the Island of the Dolls from Mexico.
By its name you wouldn’t think that the place is so scary, but after you hear the story behind it and see it with your own eyes you will discover that this isn’t a place to visit during night time.
The Island of the Dolls is situated in the Xochimilco district in New Mexico, where you can find a system of canals and islands that could be visited by boat.
One of these islands was the place of a murder and the owner of the island decided to hang from trees all over the place doll faces, arms and legs, anything he could find from abandoned dolls.
Julian Santana Barrera the owner discovered a body of a young girl, dead in a canal and after this he decided that the place should be protected from evil spirits, with these dolls, which remained all over the place even after his death.
So basically he transformed the island with a shrine and every corner of the place or piece of land has its own piece of abandoned and hanged doll, pretty scary isn’t it?

Museum Vrolik, Amsterdam
For number 9 we taught to bring out to the public a safer place, opened to the public, which can be regularly visited.
Safe but scary, this is the Museum Vrolik in Amsterdam, a place where you have to have a tough stomach because this place is the Disney Land of atrocities, deformations, anomalies and other strange biological discoveries.
First, the place was a private collection, but with time it became a formal institution where you could find the largest collection of babies in jars where it was added formalin.
The place has the oddest subjects on display, gathered by a professor, Gerardusf Vrolik and his son, to understand better the 18th century biology and the problems causing these deformities.
So basically you are invited to the museum, with no entrance fee, but regarding the scary things that could affect your physics, it’s best you leave this museum to those who are studying at the University of Amsterdam.
8.
The Destitute Cemetery City of Guatemala
So far so good, we started with a cemetery for our number 8 scariest place on earth, but the entire picture makes you run out of it, considering that this cemetery isn’t a place for sane people.
Because the City of Guatemala is suffering from congestion and a large rate of death, the cemetery transformed in a proper living city.
The graves are stacked one on the other, building up in the sky and every day you could find on the rows between the streets many people.
The thing is that you have to pay to bury your sibling there and missing a payment means that he could be evacuated and left on the rows or just thrown to a special place.
So let us picture the entire cemetery: it has hundred of graves, stacking up to the sky, people are dancing, singing and partying on the rows, tons of bodies lie around the place hopping someone will come and claim them or throw them into a communal pot, crows all over the place, scavenging for some dead person’s flesh and people selling stuff, sleeping on stands, it’s like you are in a dead town where you don’t have to be concerned by the fact that you are surrounded by bodies everywhere.
7.
The Mines of Paris
While most of us visit Paris for its amazing sightseeing and hope we have the best time of our life with the loved significant one, Paris has something hidden under its streets.
If you already visited Paris you probably know about the “Catacombs of Paris”, an underground ossuary that is opened to the public.
With more than 6 million people ding here, the place isn’t so gruesome like the real mines of Paris, tunnels that go as far as 600 kilometers below the city, most of them unmapped and unexplored.
The mines where build to extract some deposits, but they were abandoned and left behind, making it impossible to keep them closed or patrolled.
The place rumours that was used in cults, Satanism and many other things the most interesting thing being that it’s considered that one of these tunnels leads to the gates of Hades empire.
Basically, you are facing hundreds of years of bad things happening on these sites, murders, bodies left everywhere, people getting lost, screams coming from the tunnels and as far as we know the place is the hardest place to come back from.
With small tunnels, flooded ones, places where you have to crawl, hidden creatures and the possibility to enter the damned world, this by far a scary place.
6.
Pripyat, Ukraine
Down to number 6 we present the scariest town in Europe, Pripyat the closest town to the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine.
This is probably the ultimate ghost town you ever saw, the place being evacuated in the climax of 1986 nuclear reactor disaster.
While the people were evacuated and they were leaving everything intact, today after almost 30 years you could actually visit the place, but for a short period of time because long term exposure still has a radioactive harm on the body.
The 50,000 people who left the city abandoned everything and now the city is like a depictions of the walking dead, a cruel representation of how the world will look after humans.
5.
Lake Natron
Near the Tanzanian-Kenyan border, we found natures way of scaring us to death, a place where life isn’t permitted and where you could see how calm death is.
Mother Nature’s way of telling us we are killing the planet is pretty scary and Lake Natron in Tanzania is a gruesome place to visit.
The lake has a pretty amazing death toll of animal every year, just passing by, you could see mummified birds who were killed by the lakes poisonous waters and fumes.
The lake colours, it’s self into blood-red once in a while, due to bacteria and algae, but the interesting fact is that under its waters the level of sodium, the high temperatures and the toxic fumes, make life impossible on it, everything coming in contact with the lake water and the air surfacing the place is going to pay the price, being mummified in a short period of time.
Considered mother natures way of telling us that it can turn on us and show us its power, Lake Natron is pretty scary considering the fact that visiting it could cost your life.
4.
The Gomantong Caves, Malaysia
Another mother natures freak show is the Gomantong Caves in Malaysia where horror is depicted with the help of natures more terrifying creatures.
While you visit this cave, the first thing that gives you the creeps is the intensive and the horrible smell of bat guano, a toxic bat excrement.
By the time you think about the bad smell you come across millions of cockroaches which are fed from the guano.
The image is from your worst nightmare, but it doesn’t end here because the place is packed with every little creature that most people hate.
Why do they hate them?

The place has linked to it over 17,000 killings all of them being prisoners who were first tortured and made to admit something they didn’t do.
The tale says that at a point the Genocide Museum as we call it, started to turn against it’s keepers and most of them and their families where also murdered here, while paranoia was installed in the corridors of the prison.
Weird happenings and things moving around give the people the feeling that those killed here want to show them their story and the cruelty of the Cambodian genocide inflicted in 1975 by the S-21 regime.
2.
Tophet, Tunisia
Opened to tourist, Tophet is the second scariest place on earth, that you could find in Tunisia.

What do the urns contain? Well, they have the remains of children who by scientist research are no older than 4 years.
The fact that “Tophet” is translated into “hell” and the fact that there is an ancient depiction of the place being used to sacrifice young kids for the love of a Carthaginian deity, makes you rethink if you want to visit it.
The place accounts for over 20,000 burned and buried bodies of little kids who were supposedly killed for the likes of the Baal Hammon and his wife, Tanit, two gods who were the supreme deities to the Carthaginians who supposedly sacrificed their youngsters to them.
1.
Aokigahara Forest, Japan
Most of you think that the horror movies made by the Japanese are pretty awesome?
Well, they kind of experienced some of them, considering the fact that in Japan at the bottom of Mount Fuji there is a giant forest which is called Suicide Forest.
While mythological ties it to some, demons from the Japanese Ancient History, the Sea of Trees is the place where you definitely want to exclude from your vacation itinerary.
The place became so famous among people with tendencies to suicide and it’s reported that annually from 50 to 100 people commit suicide here.
The fact that the forest is so dense, makes every noise coming from here impossible to hear, blocking the cries of help or the sounds of people giving their last breaths.
So basically the people come and hang themselves, take overdoses of drugs and their bodies are found after some time, the police conducting annual searches to see if people still habit to kill themselves here.
The Suicide Forest or Aokigahara Forest is probably the scariest place on earth where you could find yourself and it doesn’t mater if it’s day or night because finding a body or more, or hearing a scream wondering through the forest is the probable situation you are embarking in.
