7.Göreme National Park, Turkey
This next national park has a unique rock formation. If we already presented some rock formations in the national parks before, I assure you this is the only place where you can find the “fairy chimneys.”
Here UNESCO made another encounter and inscribed Goreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia as to be protected because they are a unique representation of an ancient civilization who lived here in the third century.
So what is so interesting about these rock formations? They are rock formations unlike anything else who form figures that resemble obelisks fingers, pillars, columns, and needles and are in groups, singular, some irregular, some up to 130 feet tall, some have animal shapes.
This wonderful landscape has been inhabited since the third and fourth century and we can see beautiful dwellings formed in the rocky formations where people supposed to live.
These formation lead to underground cities made especially for the people back then to hide when attacked.
Also we can find a monastery build by monks who created sleeping alcoves and wineries, dining halls and numerous chapels and churches all carved in the rock formations.
The highest visited area is the village of Goreme where you can find guides and planned excursions.
Now for the attraction that will certainly make you dream a little bit, the hot air balloon rides over the rocky figures which you will enjoy for sure due the amazing scenery.
Not to forget horseback riding tours, mountain biking and jeep safari tours through the “fairy chimneys”.
