Coldest Places on Earth | Top 10

4Oymyakon, Russia : -90 degrees Fahrenheit

Oymyakon is a rural locality in Russia, located along the Indigirka River.

It was named after the Oymyakon River, meaning ‘unfrozen patch of water, place where fish spend the winter’.

Oymyakon has an extreme subarctic climate, where the ground is permanently frozen.

The lowest temperature here was registered by the Russian scientist Sergey Obrychev, in 1933, and it’s -90 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s the equivalent to -67.7 degrees Celsius.

Something that you should know is that Oymyakon is one of the candidates for the Northern Pole of Cold.

Another candidate is Verkhoyansk, also located in Russia. And we will talk about this place on the following page.

Verkhoyansk features pretty hot summers. The irony.
