How much is Ashish Kacholia worth in 2026?

We put him at $360 million, inside a range of $300 million to $450 million, using Rs 94.7 to the dollar, about the rate on November 3, 2026. The biggest row is a good one: stakes filed by companies in India, tallied per quarter. The others are our assumptions, and we have labelled them.

Public estimates disagree wildly, from around $230 million to over $1 billion. Low figures are just the filings, which leave out small positions. The billion-dollar ones have no visible basis. They may mix in money he manages for clients: one profile describes him as an independent portfolio manager for wealthy clients, and that money isn’t his.

How Ashish Kacholia built it

  • Learned the trade in broking first. He joined Prime Securities in 1993 and founded Lucky Securities in 1995.
  • Co-founded Hungama with a star investor. He co-founded Hungama Digital with Rakesh Jhunjhunwala in 1999.
  • Let one winner grow large. Shaily Engineering made up about 23 percent of his filed stakes in the September 2026 quarter.

How we got to $360 million

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Disclosed listed stakes $312 million Trendlyne’s tally for the September 2026 quarter is Rs 2,957.39 crore across 46 stocks, as read on November 3, 2026. About Rs 392 crore of it, or 13 percent, sits under two companies listed alongside him, Suryavanshi Commotrade and Dar’s Business Finance. We credit all of it to him because Trendlyne groups them in his portfolio, though we saw no ownership papers. The page warns that some companies hadn’t yet filed.
Positions below the filing line $47 million Assumption: 15 percent of the row above. Trendlyne marks some names as below 1 percent for the first time, the point where a holder stops showing up, so smaller positions go unseen.
RDC Concrete, private $7 million Investors led by him bought about 10 percent for about $20 million in December 2023. Nothing shows his own share, so we assume a quarter of it, 2.5 percent. A May 2024 sale of about 7 percent for $20 million implies about $286 million for the company, by our math. That’s our latest price, and it’s old.
Cash, property and early stakes $20 million Assumption: broking and Hungama Digital profits plus his home and cash. No figure has been published.
Tax if he sold minus $22 million India’s long-term rate on equities is 12.5 percent. We assume half of the $359 million in the first two rows is gain: $179.5 million at 12.5 percent is about $22 million.
Total $360 million Rows add to $364 million, rounded.

One stock is 23 percent of the visible portfolio

Add up the 46 filed positions and the concentration shows. Shaily Engineering Plastics is Rs 672.4 crore of Rs 2,957 crore, or 23 percent, by our calculation. The top five, Shaily, ESDS Software, Beta Drugs, Knowledge Marine and Man Industries, come to Rs 1,514.4 crore, just over half. The smallest 20 total Rs 176 crore, and the median position is about Rs 22 crore, or $2.3 million. So the Big Whale runs a few big fish and a long tail of very small ones, some under Rs 5 crore.

Shaily also did a lot of recent lifting. One January 2026 listing, using December 2025 holdings, put it at Rs 458.1 crore, against Rs 672.4 crore in the September quarter. That’s about Rs 214 crore, or $22.6 million, in about nine months. These figures come from two sites, and his stake slipped from 5.2 to 4.9 percent over that time, so the gain is all price. That one gain roughly equals our entire tax row.

A dated look at 2026

The tally moves fast. Rs 2,370 crore in January 2026, about Rs 3,085 crore in a mid-September article, and now Rs 2,957 crore, down 3.9 percent on the page we read in November 2026. Those three aren’t directly comparable, since they come from different sites and filing dates. New in the September quarter is ESDS Software at Rs 285.3 crore, SG Finserve is back at Rs 105 crore after missing June, and other names have dropped off. A stock can disappear because he sold it or because he fell under the 1 percent line, and from the outside you can’t tell which.

How he got here

He started in proprietary trading at Prime Securities in 1993 and rose to head of research, then moved to Edelweiss. He founded Lucky Securities in 1995, co-founded Hungama Digital with Rakesh Jhunjhunwala in 1999 and began building his own portfolio in 2003. His public profile is small. Trendlyne’s page notes that he avoids interviews.

What would move the figure

A 10 percent fall across his disclosed stakes takes about $31 million off the top. December quarter filings, due in early 2027, will reset the largest row. RDC Concrete’s planned IPO would give that stake a real price for the first time since 2024.
