How much is Drew Houston worth in 2026?

We estimate Drew Houston is worth about $2.6 billion, within a range of $2.1 billion to $3.2 billion. The share count and the sale prices come from SEC filings. What we assume is the tax on those sales and that spending and investment returns roughly cancel.

Public estimates differ mainly on what they count. The proxy’s ownership table adds up to about 84 million shares for him, but that includes 8.3 million shares he has not earned and about 9.3 million in other trusts. Counting all of it at $36.25 gives about $3 billion before any cash.

How Drew Houston built it

  • Tied his upside to the stock. 8,266,666 of his shares vest only at prices from $37.50 to $90.00.
  • Skipped new equity. He received no stock grant in 2025 because of his existing ownership.
  • Sold in small slices. His 2026 sales total 1,373,264 shares, about 2 percent of his trust's holding.

How we got to $2.6 billion

Dropbox closed at $36.25 on October 30, 2026, per StockTitan, the price we use throughout.

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Shares in his revocable trust $2.38 billion A Form 4 shows 65,561,029 Class B shares left in the Andrew Houston Revocable Trust after his October 12, 2026 sale. At $36.25 that is $2.38 billion.
Co-Founder Grant, unvested $0 The company’s April 2026 proxy shows 8,266,666 restricted shares that vest only at price targets from $37.50 to $90.00. At $36.25 none of them has vested, so we count nothing.
Other family trusts $0 The proxy lists 9,270,436 more shares in a remainder trust, a children’s trust and a trust where his spouse is trustee, worth about $336 million. We treat those as family money rather than his.
Cash from share sales $190 million By our count the Form 4s show about 9.6 million shares sold from November 2021 to October 2026 for about $250 million. We assume 25 percent tax. We add no returns on that cash and take off no spending, on the assumption they roughly cancel.
Total $2.57 billion $2.38 billion plus $190 million. We round to $2.6 billion.

The bottom of our range is a 20 percent lower share price. The top adds the family trusts and the unvested grant at today’s price. We add nothing for his Meta board seat or for any property in Austin, Texas, where he lives. His 2025 pay of about $2.2 million is a rounding error here.

The grant that is out of the money

Here is our calculation. The 8,266,666 unvested shares come in eight slices of about 1.03 million. Only the first slice, 1,033,334 shares, vests at $37.50, and that is worth about $39 million at that price. All eight together need $90.00 and would then be worth $744 million. The stock needs to rise 3.4 percent to reach the first target and 148 percent to reach the last, and each target has to hold over a 30-day trading period. The window closes no later than March 23, 2028. The first slice of the original 10.3 million, 2,066,667 shares, vested on November 15, 2021 at a $30 target. He received no new equity in 2025, which the proxy puts down to his existing ownership and this grant.

Selling through a trust

Form 4s list 2026 sales on eleven days from January 2 to October 12, all from the revocable trust as far as we read them, totaling 1,373,264 shares for about $42 million. Prices ran from $22.89 in April to $35.19 in September. That is about 2 percent of what the trust held when the year began, by our math. Sales since 2021 average about $26 a share, well below today’s price.

A change at the top

Wikipedia reports that in May 2026 he said he would step down as chief executive to become executive chairman, serving first as co-CEO with Ashraf Alkarmi. The grant has a service condition, so that role change is worth watching. The company reports third-quarter results on November 5, 2026. For 2025 it reported revenue of $2.5 billion and net income of $508.4 million.

What would move the figure

Each $1 on the share price moves our estimate by about $66 million, and a price that holds above $37.50 would begin to vest the grant, starting with about $39 million of stock.
