We estimate $6.5 million, with a fair range of $4 million to $10 million. This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. Netflix and NBCUniversal have not published his pay after the early Queer Eye seasons, so most rows below are our assumptions. What is on record is a few hard numbers: two home purchases, a $25,000 speaking fee and an early per-episode rate.
How we got to $6.5 million
| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Queer Eye, after tax and fees | $1.7 million | $120,000 for the first two seasons (reported), plus our assumption of $50,000 an episode for the 64 episodes of seasons 3 to 10, or $3.2 million. Half of the $3.32 million kept. |
| Karamo talk show, after tax and fees | $3 million | Our assumption: $1.5 million a season for four seasons, $6 million, half kept. His salary was never published. |
| Speaking, brands and books, after tax and fees | $1.7 million | Our assumption: $3.4 million gross, half kept. That is eight $25,000 talks a year for six years ($1.2 million), $1.5 million in brand work and $0.7 million from two books. |
| Spending | minus $1.6 million | Our assumption: a quarter of the $6.4 million above. |
| Gain on two homes | $1.2 million | Our assumption: 15 percent on the $5.4 million house ($0.81 million) and 30 percent on the $1.2 million one ($0.36 million). Price is on record, the rise is not, and we assume he still owns both. We count only the gain, because any deposit came from the savings above. |
| MANTL stake | $0.5 million | Our assumption: 10 percent of a $5 million company. The brand raised $1 million in 2020, and no stake or valuation is public. |
| Total | $6.5 million | Rows add up to the headline. |
A house worth 90 seasons of early Queer Eye pay
Looper reported that the original cast made $7,500 an episode, about $60,000 a season. Blavity gives the same rate for two eight-episode seasons, so $7,500 times 16 episodes is $120,000. Blavity also reports the home purchases: $1.2 million in Woodland Hills in March 2019, then $5.4 million in the Hollywood Hills in February 2022.
By our calculation, $5.4 million is 45 times the $120,000, or 90 seasons at $60,000. Even a 20 percent deposit, which is our assumption since no mortgage record was opened, comes to $1.08 million, or nine times that pay. And he bought it seven months before his talk show debuted in September 2022. So the raises and side income were clearly far above the early rate. The cast renegotiated for season 3, and he later said he was happy with the increase, though the raise itself has never been reported.
The older numbers are smaller still. His 2004 stint on The Real World: Philadelphia paid $10,000 for about five months, Blavity reported. A single talk at the University of San Francisco in 2021 paid $25,000, more than three early Queer Eye episodes.
Two paychecks ended in one year
This is what makes 2026 a hard year for the estimate. NBCUniversal announced in March 2026 that it was cancelling Karamo, citing local station programming preferences, and the final season of Queer Eye came out on January 21, 2026. Together those two shows make up $4.7 million of our $6.4 million in after-tax income. With them gone, we assume yearly income drops to about $1 million, mostly speaking and brand work.
The bet still alive is MANTL, the grooming brand for bald and balding men that he launched in February 2020 with two former Honest Company staff. It raised $1 million in pre-seed money from Revolution’s Rise of the Rest Seed Fund and angels including Honest co-founder Brian Lee. Products were priced from $16.99 to $26.99, and we found no revenue figures.
Why other numbers differ, and what could move ours
Public estimates run somewhat higher than ours, usually because they count a home at full price as if it were paid off, or skip tax on TV pay. A sale of either home, a MANTL exit or a new hosting deal would each change the figure. So would the actual talk show salary: every extra $500,000 a season adds about $750,000 after our tax and spending assumptions.
