How much is Nick Maggiulli Worth? Nick Maggiulli Net Worth in 2026
Nick Maggiulli’s net worth is estimated at $1.7 million as of November 2026. By his own spending rule, that gives him about $170 a day, which is a nice restaurant and not much of a flight upgrade. The author of Just Keep Buying and The Wealth Ladder would sit on the fourth rung of his own ladder at this figure, in the group Fortune described as the country’s growing upper middle class.

How much is Nick Maggiulli worth in 2026?
We put him at $1.7 million, inside a range of $1 million to $4 million. This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. We found no disclosure of his salary, royalties or advances, and no page that shows whether he owns part of the firm he helps run. What is public is the book sales claim, the firm’s size and the rules he writes about.
Estimates for someone like this disagree for one main reason. A book selling 500,000 copies sounds like a fortune, and an author sees only a small slice of the cover price. Counting a stake he may not own widens the gap further.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Pay at Ritholtz Wealth Management | $2 million | Our assumption: $250,000 a year on average for eight years, since about 2018 going by his site’s account. His pay isn’t public. His site says he moved to New York after joining, having started the blog in Boston in 2017. |
| Just Keep Buying royalties | $0.75 million | Our assumption: over 500,000 copies worldwide, his own count, at $1.50 a copy. We set the rate low because translated editions usually pay an author less. |
| The Wealth Ladder royalties | $0.25 million | Our assumption: 100,000 copies at $2.50. It reached the New York Times list dated August 17, 2025, and no sales count is public. |
| Blog, talks and other | $0.2 million | Our assumption. Of Dollars And Data has run since 2017, and we found no figures for it. |
| Income tax | minus $1.34 million | Our assumption: 42% of the $3.2 million above, for a high earner in New York City. |
| Living costs | minus $0.72 million | Our assumption: $90,000 a year for eight years. |
| Investment returns | $0.53 million | Our assumption: the $1.14 million left, invested for four years on average at 10% a year, a gain of 46%. |
| Stake in Ritholtz | $0 | The firm’s public profile shows only 2 of its 29 owners and executives, and he isn’t one of the two shown. We count nothing until a filing says otherwise. |
| Total | $1.7 million | The rows add to $1.67 million, rounded up. |
Applying his rule to him
In a July 2025 interview, he laid out a six-level ladder: under $10,000, then $100,000, $1 million, $10 million, $100 million and everything above. Level 4 runs from $1 million to $10 million and comes with what he calls travel freedom, meaning nicer seats and hotels. Private flights start at Level 5.
His 0.01% rule says you can spend about 0.01% of your net worth a day without shrinking it, assuming roughly 3.7% annual growth after inflation. By our calculation, $1.7 million divided by 10,000 is $170 a day, or about $62,000 a year. That is well under the $90,000 of living costs we assumed, so on his own rule he would be spending ahead of the ladder if our numbers are right. He also says to use liquid wealth and leave home equity out, and we can’t see how much of his figure is in a home.
It’s a useful check on a personal finance author. At the top of our range, $4 million, the same rule gives $400 a day, and he would still be on Level 4 by a wide margin. Fortune reported his finding that this level grew from 7% of the country in 1989 to 18% by 2022 and 2023.
A book that took years to sell
Just Keep Buying came out in April 2022 and sold over 10,000 copies in its first month, according to a May 2022 interview. His site now claims over 500,000 worldwide. By our math that is 50 times the first-month total, reached in about four and a half years, and at $1.50 a copy that first month earned him about $15,000.
He has published every week since 2017, the same interview said, and his site counts more than 500 posts. The same 2022 episode lists a goal of $500,000 by age 30 among its topics, though the page doesn’t say whether he hit it.
What he does at the firm
Titles vary. Interviews and Fortune in 2025 call him chief operating officer, while his own site says chief data officer. The firm has grown quickly either way. InvestmentNews reports it started in 2013 with two partners and $60 million in assets and had more than $7.6 billion by January 2026, and AdvizorPro’s data showed $9.4 billion on August 10, 2026.
What would move the number
Equity. Assume the firm earns 0.75% on $9.4 billion, about $70.5 million in revenue, and sells at twice that. A 1% stake would be worth about $1.4 million on our math, close to doubling our figure. A clear filing showing he holds a stake would matter more than another bestseller.
