How much is Sachin Bansal worth in 2026?

Bansal is a rare founder whose biggest asset is not the company that made him famous. He sold his entire Flipkart holding to Walmart in 2018 for roughly $1 billion, The News Minute reported, and most of what he is worth today sits in Navi, which he started the same year. Navi has never been listed, so the value is a judgment, not a share price.

Public estimates are far apart because some stop at the Flipkart payout and ignore what he did with it, while others count Navi at an IPO price that has not been tested. We value Navi below the headline IPO target. In August 2026 Business Today reported that Navi may raise up to Rs 3,000 crore at a valuation of up to $2 billion, with a prospectus targeted for December. A priced IPO is the thing most likely to move the number, up or down.

How Sachin Bansal built it

  • Sold the whole stake. He sold his entire 5.5 percent of Flipkart to Walmart in 2018 for about $1 billion.
  • Reinvested in a new company. He started Navi after Flipkart and held about 97 percent of it in its 2022 filing.
  • Backed other founders early. He backed Ola in 2019 at a $3 billion valuation.

How we got to $1.7 billion

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Navi Technologies stake about $1.5 billion He owned 97.39 percent of the company in its March 2022 draft prospectus, per Inc42, and we assume that is still close. We take roughly $1.55 billion as the equity value, a discount to the reported $2 billion IPO target, because it is only a target and the 2022 listing plan was deferred.
Ola stake about $100 million CXO Digital Pulse reported in January 2025 that he was in advanced talks to sell a stake of about $100 million at an implied valuation near $4 billion, after investing in 2019 at a $3 billion valuation. We carry it at that reported size, and it is unclear whether the sale happened.
Cash and other investments about $100 million An assumption: what could be left of the roughly $1 billion Flipkart payout after an assumed 20 percent capital gains tax and the money put into Navi, plus smaller startup stakes.
Total $1.7 billion Rounded. The Flipkart payout is not a separate row because most of it is already inside the Navi value.

Our calculation: $1 billion from the 2018 sale, less about 20 percent in capital gains tax, leaves roughly $800 million to reinvest. Our $1.5 billion Navi row is therefore about 1.9 times that after-tax amount ($1.5 billion divided by $0.8 billion), a gain created by a company he built rather than by holding cash. If Navi were valued at $1 billion instead, the total would fall to about $1.2 billion.

The sale that left him with cash and no company

In May 2018 Walmart bought about 77 percent of Flipkart in a deal reported at $16 billion. Bansal left at the same time and sold his entire 5.5 percent for around $1 billion. We deduct about a fifth as an assumed capital gains tax.

Most founders in that spot buy property and angel invest. Bansal started a lender that also sells mutual funds, health insurance and UPI payments, and, per its 2022 draft prospectus, kept almost all the equity himself.

Navi: the 97 percent problem

Owning nearly all of a company maximizes the owner’s share of the upside and ruins diversification. Navi filed a draft prospectus in March 2022 for an offering of up to Rs 3,350 crore, won approval that September and then deferred the plan amid weak investor sentiment. The 2026 plan is the second attempt. Until shares trade, every outside figure for his wealth rests on one assumption: that investors will pay close to $2 billion.
