How much is Shiv Nadar worth in 2026?

We put Shiv Nadar at about $620 million. That sounds low for the man who started HCL, and it would be if he had kept his stake. He did not. Under gift deeds executed on 6 March 2025 he transferred 47 percent of the shares in HCL Corp and in Vama Sundari Investments (Delhi) to his daughter Roshni Nadar Malhotra. Before that he owned 51 percent of each, so 4 percent was left.

Public estimates probably differ because some still count the old 51 percent, or count the whole HCL promoter holding as his. The group’s 60.8 percent holding in HCLTech did not change in the gift; it only moved within the family. We convert rupees at our working rate of about 95 to the dollar for early November 2026, which we did not check against a live quote.

How Shiv Nadar built it

  • Handed the company on early. He gifted 47 percent of HCL Corp and Vama Delhi to his daughter on 6 March 2025.
  • Kept the group intact. The promoter stake in HCLTech stayed at 60.814 percent after the gift.
  • Sold small, held most. HCL Corp sold 2.5 percent of HCLTech for 580 crore rupees in 2010 and kept the rest.

How we got to $620 million

Source Our estimate What it rests on
His 4 percent of Vama Delhi $724 million The filing says he held 51 percent before the gift and gave away 47 percent, which leaves 4 percent by our subtraction. Vama Delhi holds 44.17 percent of HCLTech, Angel One reported. The promoter group’s 1,65,03,00,415 shares are 60.814 percent of the company, so the company has about 2,714 million shares. 44.17 percent of that is 1,199 million shares, worth ?1.719 lakh crore at ?1,434, the price on 2 November 2026. Four percent is ?6,875 crore, or $724 million.
His 4 percent of HCL Corp $0.3 million HCL Corp holds 0.17 percent of HCLTech, about 4.6 million shares, worth ?66 crore at ?1,434. Four percent of that is ?2.6 crore, or $0.3 million. We put no value on HCL Corp’s 49.94 percent of HCL Infosystems, whose price we did not check.
Discount for holding-company structure and tax Minus $109 million We take 15 percent off the stake row, our assumption. A stake in an unlisted holding company that is not freely saleable is worth less than its look-through value.

The rows add to $615 million, which we round to $620 million. We add nothing for dividends or cash built up over decades, because no filing shows what he kept, so the estimate leans cautious there. The four percent is arithmetic from the reported figures, not a number printed in a filing. If he holds other family vehicles that were not part of the March 2025 deeds, the range of $400 million to $1.3 billion allows for it.

The size of the gift

Our calculation: the two holding companies own 44.34 percent of HCLTech, worth ?1.7255 lakh crore at ?1,434 a share. Forty-seven percent of that is ?81,100 crore, about $8.5 billion, the value passed to Roshni. He kept 4 of every 51 percentage points, about 7.8 percent of his former holding.

The deeds were filed with the stock exchange by HCL Infosystems, since both companies also hold shares in that business: Vama Delhi 12.94 percent and HCL Corp 49.94 percent. HCLTech’s own promoter total stayed at 60.814 percent.

The 2026 price, and what the shares do

Angel One put HCLTech at ?1,216.90 on 12 October 2026, the day it was due to report second-quarter results. It was ?1,434 on 2 November, a rise of about 18 percent. Our stake row moves with it: at ?1,217 it would be $616 million, not $726 million.

The filing summary lists only 736 HCLTech shares in his own name, which we ignore as immaterial. Any holding by the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which he set up, is charitable and we do not count it as his.

What would move the figure

A filing showing a different share count in the holding companies would change the stake row directly. A further gift would cut it. HCLTech’s price is the other lever: 10 percent either way is about $62 million.
