How much is Alan Sugar Worth? Alan Sugar Net Worth in 2026
Alan Sugar’s net worth is estimated at $700 million as of November 2026.
One company dividend in 2021, £390 million, was worth 11 times what his Amstrad stake fetched in the Sky takeover. Sugar, now Lord Sugar, is the East End kid who built Amstrad, sold it to Sky in 2007, and has since lived mostly off a quiet property and screens business called Amshold. The television job is the part everyone knows. No pay figures for it are public, so our ledger has no row for it.

How much is Alan Sugar worth in 2026?
We put Alan Sugar’s net worth at about $700 million, or roughly £540 million at $1.30 to the pound (our working rate, not a quoted market rate). That is an estimate. Amshold is private and Sugar does not publish a balance sheet, so we rebuilt the figure from payouts that appear in company accounts.
Public estimates run well above ours. A likely reason is method: we count cash that left the company and reached him after tax, and we have no sight of Amshold’s private books, so we do not credit him with assets we cannot trace.
How Alan Sugar built it
- Sold the company at the right time. Sky paid about 125 million pounds for Amstrad in 2007, valuing his 27.9 percent stake at 34.9 million pounds.
- Kept the cash inside a holding company. Amshold paid out 390 million pounds in 2021 from cash built up over several years.
- Bought property and screens. Amshold held 271 million pounds of London property in 2021 and Amscreen was sold to Bauer in 2025.

|---|---|---|
| 2021 Amshold dividend | $265 million | Accounts filed at Companies House show a £390 million dividend, Bisnow reported. A 2023 investigation by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, drawing on Sunday Times reporting, reported a tax bill on it of about £186 million (one report suggested nearer £160 million), which would leave £204 million. At $1.30 to the pound that is $265 million. |
| 2022 Amshold dividend | $61 million | The next payout was £90 million. We assume he kept 52 percent, the share he kept in 2021, which is £47 million. |
| 2016 dividend | $122 million | Amshold paid £181 million for the year to June 2016, Property Investor Today reported in January 2017. We apply the same 52 percent kept and get £94 million. This is an assumption on tax, not a disclosed figure. |
| Amstrad sale to Sky, 2007 | $39 million | Sky offered 150 pence a share, and The Register reported his 27.9 percent stake was worth about £35 million. We assume 15 percent went in tax, leaving £30 million. |
| Tottenham Hotspur stake, 2001 and 2007 | $52 million | Wikipedia’s account has him selling 27 percent of the club for £22 million in 2001 and his last 12 percent for £25 million in 2007, £47 million in all. We assume 15 percent in tax, leaving £40 million. |
| Amshold net assets, June 2025 | $31 million | The accounts, covered by City AM, show £23.8 million after dividends. Most of the money had already been paid out. |
| Amscreen sale to Bauer, 2025 | $125 million | The price was not published. City AM reported Amscreen made an £18.9 million pre-tax profit on £52.7 million turnover in 2023. Our assumption: it sold for 6 times that profit, £113 million, he received all of it, and 15 percent went in tax, leaving £96 million. We treat it as separate from Amshold’s net assets. This row is a guess, and we know of no other holdings so we add none. |
The rows add to about $695 million, which we round to $700 million. About $570 million of that, roughly four fifths, comes from payouts and sales that appear in filings or press reports. The last row is a guess, and it is why we show a range. Dividends are what reached him, not what he still holds: we cannot see what he spent.
The £390 million cheque
Our calculation: £390 million divided by £35 million is 11.1. The 2021 payout alone was eleven times his Amstrad windfall. After the £186 million tax bill, what he kept, £204 million, was still 5.8 times the Amstrad money. The dividend was paid from cash built up over years and released by a restructuring begun in 2019, not from that year’s trading. Amshold had a £40 million operating profit in the year to June 2021, helped by selling three properties for £121 million.
On the reported £186 million, tax took 47.7 percent of that payout, which is why we do not count the gross number. One report suggested the bill was nearer £160 million.
Property, then screens
Amshold’s portfolio of London freeholds was valued at £271 million in June 2021. The 2025 accounts tell a more modest story: £14.1 million pre-tax profit for the year to 30 June 2025, up from £0.9 million, with two properties sold for a £9.9 million profit and no dividend paid. The Crosspoint building at 117 to 121 Bishopsgate sold for £24 million on 1 October 2024.
Amscreen, the digital signage maker Sugar chaired and his son Simon ran, was taken over by Bauer Media in a deal reported in September 2025. No price was published.
What would move the figure
A price for the Amscreen sale would settle the weakest row in the ledger. Another dividend would add cash, and a further fall in London property values would trim Amshold’s remaining assets. Amshold also owed £75 million to associated companies at June 2025, which we have not tried to net off.
