How much is Yuval Noah Harari worth in 2026?

We estimate Yuval Noah Harari is worth about $39 million, within a range of $20 million to $80 million. This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. Sales totals, advances and speaking fees are not published in anything we could open.

Public estimates differ because they guess at sales. Some multiply copies by the cover price, which gives the publisher’s revenue, not the author’s. Others add the value of his company, Sapienship, which describes itself as a social impact company and has no published accounts.

How Yuval Noah Harari built it

  • Wrote one book that traveled. Sapiens has been translated into 52 languages and spent 182 weeks on a US bestseller list.
  • Built a family company. Yahav Harari Group sells comics and children's books around the same ideas.
  • Kept making new formats. A graphic novel series and the Unstoppable Us books extend Sapiens for new readers.

How we got to $39 million

The copy count for Sapiens (25 million) comes from a Penguin Random House announcement of January 2024, so it is probably higher now. The same announcement says his books together have passed 45 million copies. Every dollar figure below is our assumption.

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Sapiens royalties $25 million Our assumption: about $1 to the author per copy on 25 million reported copies. The book has been translated into 52 languages, according to Harari, and foreign editions pay far less per copy than a US hardcover.
The other books $17 million Our assumption. The 45 million total less 25 million Sapiens copies leaves about 20 million copies of the other books, so $17 million is about $0.85 a copy. It covers Homo Deus, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, Nexus (published September 10, 2024) and The Laws of History, plus the graphic novels and the Unstoppable Us children’s series.
Speaking and licensing $10 million Our assumption for talks, a family company that sells comics and children’s books, and rights deals. No fee schedule is public.
Agent fees and tax Minus $13 million Our assumption: 25 percent of the $52 million above.
Total $39 million $25 + $17 + $10 million is $52 million, less $13 million.

We add nothing for property or investments, since none are reported. We also do not count the $1 million that Sapienship gave to the World Health Organization during the pandemic as lost wealth, because the company, not an individual, made the gift.

64 percent from one book

Here is our calculation. At 25 million copies and $1 a copy, Sapiens is worth $25 million to him before tax, which is 64 percent of our $39 million. Move the per-copy assumption to $0.50 and the figure falls by about $12.5 million before tax; move it to $2 and it rises by $25 million. That one number explains most of the range on this page.

Why a Hebrew book became a franchise

Sapiens appeared first in Hebrew in 2011 and in English a few years later. Reference records say it spent 182 weeks on the New York Times list as of May 2022, 96 of them in a row. His husband, Itzik Yahav, has also been his manager, and his biography quotes a German newspaper describing the Yahav Harari Group as a growing product universe of comics and children’s books.

What he is doing now

His own site lists a virtual appearance on November 7, 2026 at a mindfulness festival and recent interviews. Sapienship runs a free education site and the Unstoppable Us series for middle-grade readers. No new book is announced.

What would move the figure

A published royalty statement or a sales total from a publisher would replace our per-copy assumption. A new book would add a fresh advance. A film or television deal for Sapiens would add a licensing line we do not currently count.
