Cicada flavoured ice cream. It doesn’t seem so bad, right? That is if you don’t know what cicada is.
Cicadas are nothing else than insects with prominent eyes and well-developed wings. They live in temperate-to-tropical climates and they are well known for their large size and unique sound.
So, how about an ice cream that tastes like an insect? Thank you, but… no.
The weird ice cream is sold by Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream in Columbia, and from what they say it doesn’t taste so bad as it sounds.
And this is no flavoured ice cream, it actually contains the insects! They are coated in brown sugar and milk chocolate, and mixed with vanilla ice cream. Their wings were used as a finishing garnish, but it seems like they have stopped distributing the ice cream. Wonder why.
