6. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) – $125 million
The second and best part of Sherlock Holmes so far, because a Sherlock Holmes 3 is scheduled to release.
With a budget of $125 million the movie managed to gross a total of $186 million in the USA.
In the movie, Sherlock is forced to disguise himself in order to pass unseen, the idea for the disguise as a cross-dresser belonged to Robert Downey Jr.
In fact, in “The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone” Holmes is in fact said to have been disguised himself as an old woman, but we don’t know if Downey knew this detail or not.
In order to be able to do the movie both the director Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. were forced to drop out Lobo and Cowboys & Aliens.
