How much is Josh Brown worth in 2026?

We estimate Josh Brown is worth about $50 million, within a range of $30 million to $90 million. The ownership band and the firm’s size are on the record. Its revenue, its margin and his exact percentage are not, and the firm has never published a price for its shares.

Public estimates disagree because they rarely price the firm at all. Some treat a CNBC regular as a media earner, while others get dazzled by billions in client assets that belong to clients. The stake is also illiquid, and none of it is cash until he sells.

How Josh Brown built it

  • Moved from broker to fiduciary. He started as a stockbroker in the late 1990s, then moved to fee-based advice.
  • Took no outside investors. The firm stayed all employee-owned, with 29 staff holders on the table in 2026.
  • Grew $60 million to $7.6 billion. The firm launched with $60 million in 2013 and reported $7.6 billion in January 2026.

How we got to $50 million

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Stake in Ritholtz Wealth Management $60 million 30 percent of a firm we value at about $200 million. The sum: $7.6 billion at a 0.75 percent fee is $57 million of revenue, a 25 percent margin gives $14.25 million of profit, and 14 times that is $199.5 million. The assets are reported in January 2026. The fee, margin and multiple are our assumptions, set inside industry ranges.
Tax if he sold Minus $18 million Our assumption: 30 percent federal and New York tax on the $60 million, treating his cost as close to zero because he co-founded the firm.
Profits already taken and kept $7 million Our assumption: 30 percent of today’s profit is $4.3 million a year. We assume the firm averaged a third of today’s size over 13 years, or $18.5 million in all, then take half for tax and keep three-quarters of the rest.
Books, CNBC and speaking $1 million Our assumption. He has two books listed, from 2012 and 2014, and his TV and speaking pay is not public.
Total $50 million $60 million less $18 million, plus $7 million and $1 million.

Why 30 percent. The January 2026 filing gives bands: Brown 25 to 49, Michael Batnick and Kris Venne 10 to 24, which we read as each, Barry Ritholtz and Jay Tini 5 to 9 each, plus 24 employees under 5 each. Take the middle of each named band and those four come to 48 percent. Give the 24 others 1 percent apiece and 28 percent is left for Brown, which we round up to 30.

One point of this firm is worth $2 million

By our math, 1 percent of a $199.5 million firm is about $2 million. Apply that to the filed band and his stake is anywhere from $50 million at 25 percent to $98 million at 49 percent, before tax. We sit near the low end because the other holders have to fit somewhere.

The multiple is where we hold back. CT Acquisitions’ July 2026 guide shows 13 to 18 times adjusted EBITDA for firms above $5 billion, calling that a thin market, with typical fees of 0.60 to 1.00 percent and median margins of 24 to 28 percent for fee-only firms. Family Wealth Report quoted consultant David DeVoe in July 2026 saying well-run firms of about $5 billion can reach about 20 times EBITDA. We use 14 because a minority stake in a firm with no outside buyer should not get a top-of-the-market price. At 20 times, the firm would be worth $285 million and his 30 percent $85.5 million before tax.

As a sanity check, $57 million of revenue across 85 employees is about $670,000 a head, which seems plausible for a firm like this.

The succession deal with no price on it

The most useful number in this story is one nobody has given. On January 30, 2026, the firm announced a succession plan: Barry Ritholtz, who turns 65 this year, cut his holding from the 25 to 49 percent band to 5 to 9 percent, and 29 employees now sit on the ownership table. Brown stayed in his band. The firm did not disclose what Ritholtz was paid.

InvestmentNews describes the firm as all employee-owned with no outside capital, working from 15 offices. Brown told the trade press a future minority investment isn’t ruled out, though he said it isn’t needed now. Any such deal would put a real price on every one of those points.

A former broker who built a fiduciary firm

Brown began as a stockbroker in the late 1990s and later moved to advice for a fee. He started The Reformed Broker in 2008 and, Wikipedia records, ended it on November 29, 2023, saying he was no longer the person who started it. The growth since 2013 is the real money story: $7.6 billion divided by $60 million is about 127 times the starting assets, by our calculation.

What would move the figure

The firm’s size is the biggest lever. TrueAdvisor lists $9.4 billion and 4,221 clients without giving a date, which we don’t use for the headline. If it is current, the extra $1.8 billion adds about $10 million after tax on our assumptions, because each $1 billion is worth about $5.5 million to him. A market drop works the same way in reverse, since fees follow client balances.
