How much is Kunal Shah Worth? Kunal Shah Net Worth in 2026
Kunal Shah’s net worth is estimated at $1 billion as of November 2026. The oddest line in his financial history is FreeCharge: he sold it in a deal valued at $400 million, and it later changed hands again for $60 million. Shah, an Indian entrepreneur, founded the payments app FreeCharge and then the credit card bill app CRED, and he is a prolific angel investor.

How much is Kunal Shah worth in 2026?
This one is a rough estimate: little of the money is documented. CRED is private and Shah’s exact stake is not in a filing we could read. Public estimates differ a lot, mostly over how much of CRED he still holds. We settle at $1 billion with a range of $700 million to $1.3 billion, and the table below shows which parts are reported and which are our assumptions.
How Kunal Shah built it
- Sold at the top. FreeCharge sold for $400 million in 2015 and later resold for a reported $60 million.
- Started again small. CRED began in 2018 with roughly $1 million of his own money.
- Backed many founders. He has invested in more than 200 start-ups.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| CRED stake | About $900 million | Meta was reported in June 2026 to be investing $900 million for about 20 percent, a $4.5 billion value. Whalesbook reported he still holds approximately 20 percent through personal holdings and his family office QED Innovation Labs. 20 percent of $4.5 billion is $900 million. |
| FreeCharge sale (2015) | About $100 million | The price was $400 million. We put his ownership at about 25 percent, which is a guess. |
| Angel portfolio | About $50 million | He has backed more than 200 start-ups. A modest net value is our guess, since most small bets return nothing. |
| Tax on the FreeCharge proceeds | Minus $25 million | 25 percent of the FreeCharge row. |
| Total | About $1 billion | $900 + $100 + $50 – $25 million = $1,025 million, rounded. |
The $400 million sale that became $60 million
Shah sold FreeCharge to Snapdeal in 2015 in a deal valued at $400 million. Snapdeal later sold it to Axis Bank for a reported $60 million. That is an 85 percent fall from the sale price, so the buyer took the loss while Shah kept what he was paid.
He then started CRED in 2018 with roughly $1 million of his own money, according to a June 2026 profile.
What Meta’s cheque implies
Our calculation: $900 million for 20 percent implies $4.5 billion. CRED’s June 2025 round was at $3.5 billion, so the price rose about 29 percent in a year. On a 20 percent stake, that step added roughly $200 million to his paper wealth.
The same profile says Meta appointed him global head of WhatsApp, and Whalesbook reported that he stepped down as a CRED promoter and board member effective 22 June 2026. A fall in CRED’s valuation, or a sale of Shah’s shares, would move our number the most.
Why the estimates disagree
The 11.14 percent promoter holding reported before he stepped down leaves out the shares he holds through QED, so an estimate built on it comes out at about half of ours. We use the reported 20 percent total and the latest valuation.
