How much is Narayana Murthy worth in 2026?

We estimate Narayana Murthy’s net worth at about $328 million. Infosys is listed, so the main row can be built from a share count and a share price. What we cannot see is the cash he has built up over four decades of dividends, or his share of the family’s investment office. Those rows are assumptions, and the ledger says so.

How Narayana Murthy built it

  • Founded Infosys with six colleagues. He co-founded the company in 1981 with seed capital of ₹10,000.
  • Held the shares. He still owns about 15.1 million Infosys shares, around 0.41 percent.
  • Passed shares to the family. The family together holds 4.06 percent, about ten times his own stake.

How we got to $328 million

Source Our estimate What it rests on
Infosys shares $198.1 million He holds 15,145,638 Infosys shares, according to a portfolio site that compiles exchange filings, about 0.41 percent. At the April 2026 close of ?1,242.60 that is ?1,882 crore, or $198.1 million at 95 rupees to the dollar (about the rate on 30 October 2026).
Dividends and earlier sale cash $90.0 million Infosys declared a ?25 final dividend for FY26, which on his shares is ?37.9 crore, about $4.0 million. We assume the cash from many such years was kept. Assumption.
Share of the family investment office $40.0 million He is linked to a family investment office, Catamaran Ventures, but we found no public holdings list. Assumption.
Total $328.1 million Sum of the rows above.

Only the first row is documented, and it is 60 percent of the total ($198.1 million of $328.1 million). A 15 percent move in the Infosys share price changes the headline by about $30 million. The other two rows could each be double or half our figure, which is why the range runs from $240 million to $470 million.

A tenth of the family’s stake

A January 2026 Business Today report citing exchange data put the combined stake of Murthy, his wife Sudha Murty, son Rohan Murty, daughter Akshata Murty and grandson Ekagrah Rohan Murty at 4.06 percent of Infosys. Murthy’s own 0.41 percent is 10.1 percent of that (0.41 divided by 4.06). By our calculation, at the same share price the whole family holding is worth about ?18,600 crore, or $2.0 billion, roughly ten times his own stake. A figure of several billion dollars for Murthy is a family figure.

What a grandson’s 15 lakh shares pay

Business Today reported that Ekagrah holds 15 lakh Infosys shares, worth ?186.4 crore at the April 2026 close, and has received ?17.85 crore in dividends since the gift. Murthy’s stake is about ten times as large (15,145,638 divided by 1,500,000 is 10.1), so by our calculation the FY26 final dividend of ?25 a share on his shares comes to about ?37.9 crore.

?10,000 and six colleagues

His public biography says he co-founded Infosys in 1981 with six software professionals, with seed capital of ?10,000 from his wife, Sudha Murty. He is now chairman emeritus, so the fortune is built on shares in a business he started, not on a salary.

Why other estimates disagree

Public estimates mix three things: his own shares, the family’s combined holding, and the value of the whole family office. Some use an old share price. Some give one person the wealth of several. We count only his own holding and an allowance for the family office.

What would move the number

The Infosys share price is the main driver. A new quarterly shareholding filing would show whether he has bought, sold or gifted shares, as he has to family before. Disclosure of Catamaran Ventures’ holdings would replace our assumed row.
