How much is Chad Hurley Worth? Chad Hurley Net Worth in 2026
Chad Hurley’s net worth is roughly $350 million as of November 2026, with a plausible range of $200 million to $600 million. Hurley co-founded YouTube and was its first chief executive. This is a rough estimate: one number in his story is documented to the share, the Google stock he received in 2007, and almost nothing about what happened to that money afterwards is public.

How much is Chad Hurley worth in 2026?
We put Chad Hurley at about $350 million, and we want to be plain about how soft that is. Little of the money after 2007 is documented. Public estimates for him run from about $200 million to $700 million, and they differ mostly on a question nobody has answered in public: how much of the Google stock he sold, when, and what he did with the cash. Some figures also use the stock’s value at different dates in 2006 and 2007.
How Chad Hurley built it
- Took the stock. He accepted Google shares, 735,319 of them, rather than cash when YouTube was sold in 2007.
- Started again. After leaving the top job in 2010 he built AVOS Systems and then the video app MixBit.
- Built with a partner. He founded YouTube and later MixBit with Steve Chen, splitting out MixBit in 2014.

| Source | Our estimate | What it rests on |
|---|---|---|
| Google stock received for his YouTube stake | $345 million | Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock. An SEC filing showed Hurley with 694,087 Google shares plus 41,232 in a trust, valued at more than $345 million when it became public in February 2007. |
| Minus tax on the sale | Minus $80 million | We assume roughly 23% federal tax on the gain, since the shares had almost no cost basis. Actual tax depends on when he sold and is not public. |
| Growth and later ventures, net of losses | $85 million | An assumption: modest returns on about $265 million after tax over 19 years, offset by spending and the cost of start-ups such as MixBit. No filing documents this row. |
The rows add up to $350 million. Only the first is documented, which is why the confidence is low and the range is wide.
735,319 shares, and a calendar problem
The documented part is oddly precise. As Fox News reported from the SEC filing, Hurley held 694,087 Google shares directly and 41,232 in a trust. Add them and you get 735,319 shares, valued at more than $345 million, which works out to roughly $470 a share. TechCrunch had earlier valued his stake at $334 million using the November 13, 2006 closing price. Same stake, two prices, a gap of about $11 million.
What he would have if he had held
Here is our calculation. Alphabet has split twice since 2007, first two-for-one in 2014 and then twenty-for-one in 2022, so each 2007 share corresponds to 40 shares today. His 735,319 shares become about 29.4 million, which means every $100 on the share price is worth $2.9 billion to a holder of that stack. A Fortune piece on the YouTube founders estimates that had they kept the same percentage of Google, each could be worth more than $100 billion today. It does not say whether they sold. We treat the money as cashed out long ago, which is an assumption.
After YouTube
Hurley stepped down as chief executive in October 2010. With Steve Chen he later started AVOS Systems, an incubator that turned into a single product. VentureBeat reported in June 2014 that the pair would part ways and spin out MixBit, a mobile video app that Hurley led. We found no later revenue or sale figures for it, and none for 2026 events, so the latest documented money in our sources is the 2007 stock.
Why public estimates scatter
Some pages treat the $345 million as the net worth and stop there. Others imagine he kept the stock and put the figure in the billions. A third group assumes steady growth. None of those assumptions has a document behind it.
What would move the figure
A disclosed sale of a business he owns, a fund return, or a filing naming his holdings. Without one, the estimate stays a reasoned guess from a single anchor.
